Where have you first developed your love for calligraphy?

I grew up and loved making something out of birthday cards, placing cards for our family’s holiday tables, paper chains for decorating for special occasions (or just one Tuesday afternoon). So I learned to love to pick up letterhead and stamps, write letters, address envelopes and express gratitude. I really think that this was the basis for my interest in all things related to letters and typography.

Just as with any art form, we tend to see only the finished work; It’s a part of the magic of all, but we must remember that something of beauty is worth spending time and effort to bring it to life.

I was always fortryllet with brevformularer, since I was a child experimenting with different ways to make them, but first discovered calligraphy when I found my sister Sheaffer springpen calligraphy kit. Although I worked extensively with typography during my work in graphic design, my own wedding was when I got the perfect opportunity to revive my love for handwriting and calligraphy.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After some press coverage at my wedding, which contained pictures of the letterhead I had designed, I received a significant influx of inquiries from brides to handwritten and hand-painted aesthetics. I realized, at my passion could be a viable business, and took a short vacation from my lawyer at the time to pursue it. The explosions of social media around this time were also very serendipitous. It made it possible for me to see other artists succesfully take the plunge into pursuing their creative passions on a full-time basis and then connecting so many others with similar interests (including commercial collaborators I never dreamed).

Maybe link it with only formal or even “indelukket” events.

What do you think is next in the world of handwritten stationery and invitations?

There is certainly a wonderful tendency for experimentation to push the boundaries of calligraphy and stationery. Just as mode has experimented with transforming the old into something new happening all over the world of handwritten stationery and invitations.

I’ve loved the stationery ever since I was a little girl. Hallmark var min favorit butik, I had a comprehensive stamp collection, and I used to make sets of hand-painted note cards, which I would give as gifts.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Før jeg startede Katie Fischer Design arbejdede jeg hos Endeavour talent bureau.

In the evenings and on weekends, I made my hand-painted stationery, which I would sell at various LA stores. She held a dinner party for me with a group of people who had fallen out of corporate America and started their own businesses. Inspired, I stopped Endeavour and went back to the graduate school at NYU for graphic design, art and business.

Handskrevet kalligrafi tar tid (2-3 weeks), and it’s not something you want to hurry. It is a timed craft that deserves proper attention and rushing it becomes expensive.

A return to the classic calligraphy style, but presented in unexpected ways: etched in acrylic, blindly written on black paper, in a digital invitation video or paired with modern art.
