New York butik, jeg en byhus på 17 øst 71st Street, formerly a Japanese tea house, Olsen has created a store that is even more ambitious in its design declaration. To this place, they cooperated with Jacques Grange, the Paris-based interior architect, famous for having designed the home of Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino and many more, and the results here telegraphize both his signature sense of wealth and the studied restraint of Olsens. There will be several million dollar paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat on the walls, and a Calder mobile hangs from the ceiling, but the extravagance is not far beyond the top.
Hovedetagen – there are three here – it is surprisingly inviting, with wide open views over the street and not too much product, in addition to shoes and accessories, on the screen. A large part of the clothes is located on the second floor, sold largely in color, with a wide range of options for Row highlights such as sharp shirts, leather sweatshirts, collarless blazers and long knitted dresses. On the top floor there are several collection pieces that are shown on custom-made racks of crossed blonde wood designed by Grange himself, and also dishes and ceramics by Masa.

Hvorfor det er en wow: It’s no secret that times are hard for traditional stores, and at designers, to give customers a reason to trade, more and more are pushed to create experiences as much as space. Not many have the resources to create something as appealing as this, a store that could legitimately compete with a gallery of works of art. It would not be surprising if some customers lose by simply studying their taste, to pick up a few decorative tips, or just to shed the artwork, just like Basquiat painted on what appears to be a panel of hardwood floors or Keith Haring drawings or Noguchi bordet eller spisestuen af Jacques Adnet.
Som med Los Angeles-butikken er alt her til salg. Of course there are no price tags that hang on the artwork, as it’s a smart way to draw interest (the pieces are taken from galleries like Delorenzo, Wyeth and Gallery BAC), and monitors can change on a regular basis when the furniture comes and goes . Selvom, som de siger, if you have to ask …
