I was 19 years old when I first learned about sex trade. I learned that women and girls are bought and sold for merit, at their will, in places like India, Cambodia and Thailand. Tre år senere, i 2008, film taken– where Liam Neeson is playing a former government operative that runs when his teenage daughter and her friend are kidnapped by traffickers in Paris-hit box offices and talked about sex trade mainstream.
The more I learned about human trafficking, the more I felt compelled to get involved. I was not only interested; I felt a sense of personal urgency for doing something to stop the exploitation of women internationally.
I was 4 years old the first time I was infected. It was only before I was 12 years old that the memories went up and trauma began to settle in. I’ve been bearing the weight of guilt and shame and slammed with questions, no teenager is prepared to answer. Er jeg elskelig? Kan jeg bortskaffes?? It took years for me to treat what had happened, free me from the damage burden and finally forgive my overdraft. I feel lucky to say that I’ve moved to a place where my abuse experience does not define who I am or who I want to stay; men til denne dag, når jeg hører historier om kvinder, der er tvunget til at udføre seksuelle handlinger – nogle gange tjener så mange som 40 mænd om dagen – bliver ilden i mig stærkere.

We only know about this problem than we did at the time when I first heard it; We know that there is slavery in all parts of the world, and in all cities in the United States. It is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world and permeates pornography, escort services, strip clubs, truck stops and more. You may not know that a very small percentage (less than 2 percent of reported cases) of human trafficking involves kidnapping, even though taken franchise og nyhedshistorier om mistænkte nærførselssager fører os til at tro, at dette er den primære rekruttering. Traffickers byttes især på plejehjem løbeordninger: It is estimated that one out of three nursing care children will be recruited by a trafficker within 48 hours.
When I was in college, there was a problem, I perceived to happen in remote countries. I felt an unattainable passion for doing something, but I felt powerless to do something. I was not a lawyer, social worker, policeman or psychologist – what could I do?
The next month happened by December, and I was a lover of puns, and I brought my name to my style challenge: Dressember. Så gjorde jeg det. I had dressed every day for a whole month, never planned to do it again.

Men that next year said some of my girlfriends that they wanted to do it with me. So I did it again and thought that they were either bored or mooded me. The next year, in 2011, my dearest girlfriend wanted to attend. It was at that time, I realized that people liked Dressember apart from knowing me and I began to dream about what more it could be.
I traveled to IJM, and to my surprise they responded to them Elskede det ville ville bidrage til at fremme Dressember.
Last year was our fourth campaign year, and we raised $ 1.5 million to finance 238 rescue actions.
Many things have changed since 2013 – we have added to our fellowships and formalized our grant process – but at the same time there is not much change: the core of everything we do at Dressember is the belief that every life is valuable and that no one is to be robbed of their inhabitants are entitled to a free and living life.

I would like to visit one of our partners offices in the area every year. For et par år siden besøgte jeg IJMs kontor i Den Dominikanske Republik. I Santo Domingo focuses on IJM on cases of trafficking in children’s sex. When she was 14, decided her mother, she wanted her back, and Mariam was hoping that she finally had life and relationship with her mother she had demanded for years. Soon after they moved together, Mariam’s mother sold her to a trafficker.
When I met Mariam she was 17 and radiated hope. I instead of being overcome by the mother’s tragedy and traumed to be exploited, she seemed wonderfully pleasing. I realize, at Mariam’s history because of our partner IJM’s work is not based on her abuse; Because of her rescue and restoration process, her story continues, and it bends against redemption.
One of the things I love most about Dressember is that it is an opportunity to celebrate the fun and freedom of fashion while it literally is used as a tool for the freedom of others. There is also a reminder that any choice we make – what we buy, what we carry, what we say – is an opportunity to advocate the dignity of others.
